AiB is a place of encounter and exchange. We bring people and cultures together, enter into dialogue, and gain new perspectives. With our programs we want students to engage with knowledge through their own experiences, and to foster their personal development through their encounters with themselves, with others, and with the unknown. We create connections to local initiatives, regional projects and to discourses in society, and mobilize resources and competencies to pursue creative solutions in a complex world. We foster a lively community through interdisciplinary exchange with learners and teachers.

Our programs

Programs that transform.

Our programs are academically aligned with the curriculum of your home university. The programs allow you to spend a semester or summer abroad and still graduate on time. You can choose from a wide selection of core and elective courses, all taught in English. The lecturers are experts in their respective fields and have many years of teaching experience. In our programs we place great emphasis on project-based, transformative learning. Course-related study trips, workshops and real-world projects provide in-depth access to topics and cultures. Each program has a dedicated AiB program coordinator who also serves as an intercultural mentor.

Bonn – a city you will love.

The city of Bonn with its baroque buildings and centuries of history is at the same time a modern and dynamic city due to its large number of international organizations. Bonn is a college town and home to over 35,000 students from all over the world. Given the city’s welcoming student atmosphere and international flair, it doesn’t take long to fully arrive in Bonn and call the former German capital your new home. In addition, Bonn is known for its very high quality of life and low crime rate. The wealth of music, culture, science, business and nature as well as the location on the Rhine River make Bonn a hidden gem in the heart of Europe. Bonn’s central location in the middle of Germany with three airports in the immediate vicinity as well as the well-developed German rail network open the door to all of Europe.

Community, Student Life & Host Families

We cultivate a respectful and appreciative environment and are proud of the AiB community. Our carefully selected host families open their doors to you and invite you to find a home away from home. You can choose between traditional homestay (close contact with the family, shared meals) and independent homestay (more casual contact with the family, self-catering). Our AiB-Housing team has many years of experience and a good sense to find the right family for you. Some of our programs offer the possibility of housing in shared apartments. Our student staff regularly organizes leisure activities for you through which you can gain access to student life in Bonn and make contact with locals.

Health & Safety

We want you to feel safe and comfortable during your time in Bonn.

AiB staff is trained to address health, safety and risk management issues or concerns. We draw on an extensive support network to do this:

  • AiB operates a 24-hour emergency contact number that can be reached worldwide.
  • In the event of an illness, accident or other emergency, AiB assists with medical care by providing referrals to doctors or other specialists.
  • Bilingual AiB staff accompanies to appointments and help with formalities.
  • A systematic response system is in place to reach all students in emergencies.
  • AiB works closely with partner institutions, embassies, consulates and the local authorities. Important information, such as travel warnings, is immediately disseminated to all students.
  • AiB conducts orientation and information sessions that provide information about safety, health, legal, environmental, political, cultural and religious conditions in the host country. These events address not only health and safety issues, but also potential health and safety risks and appropriate emergency response measures.
  • AiB has an extensive network of carefully selected host families who can also provide supportive assistance in times of need.
  • AiB has a network of English speaking medical professionals.

In addition, Bonn is city with a high standard of living, a low crime rate and a strong international atmosphere where many people speak English.

Frequently asked questions
